About Mount Rainier National Park

Mount Rainier National Park protects the most glaciated peak in the contiguous United States. The iconic stratovolcano is an active volcano that last erupted about 1,000 years ago. The park contains 25 major glaciers and 93 square miles of permanent snow and ice. In summer, the meadows at Paradise and Sunrise erupt with wildflowers, while winter brings record snowfall that blankets the mountain in white. Over 10,000 climbers attempt to summit Mount Rainier each year.
