About Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park encompasses the summits and portions of the rift zones of Kilauea and Mauna Loa, two of the world's most active volcanoes. Kilauea has been erupting nearly continuously since 1983, offering visitors a rare chance to see the Earth's ongoing creation. The park also protects unique Hawaiian ecosystems, from lush rainforests to barren lava deserts, and is considered sacred by Native Hawaiians as the home of Pele, goddess of fire.
