About Yosemite National Park
Yosemite National Park spans nearly 1,200 square miles of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The park is famous for its towering granite cliffs, including the iconic El Capitan and Half Dome, its spectacular waterfalls including the continent's tallest, and its ancient giant sequoia groves. Yosemite Valley, just seven miles long and carved by glaciers, contains many of the park's most famous features. The park played a pivotal role in the conservation movement, with naturalist John Muir's writings helping establish it as protected land.
