About Redwood National and State Parks
Redwood National and State Parks protect 139,000 acres of old-growth coast redwood forest, containing some of the tallest and oldest trees on Earth. The coast redwoods grow in a narrow strip along the Pacific coast where summer fog provides crucial moisture. The world's tallest known tree, Hyperion, stands 380.3 feet tall. The parks also protect 40 miles of wild coastline, prairies, oak woodlands, and riparian habitat for salmon and the iconic Roosevelt elk.
