About Lassen Volcanic National Park
Lassen Volcanic National Park showcases the ongoing geologic activity of the Cascade Range. The park contains examples of all four types of volcanoes: plug dome, shield, cinder cone, and stratovolcano. Lassen Peak is the largest plug dome volcano in the world and last erupted from 1914 to 1917. Today, the park features active hydrothermal areas including Bumpass Hell, with its boiling springs, mudpots, and fumaroles. The park also offers excellent stargazing as a designated Dark Sky Park.
