About Gates of the Arctic National Park
Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve protects 8.4 million acres of pristine Arctic wilderness—the second largest park in the system. Entirely above the Arctic Circle, the park contains the central Brooks Range with its dramatic peaks and wild rivers. It has no roads, no trails, no designated campgrounds, and receives fewer than 10,000 visitors per year. This is wilderness in its purest form, largely unchanged since the last ice age.
